The afoundation are co-ordinating
the Independents 04 strand of the Liverpool Biennial, a rich diversity
of lively shows, presented in four areas across the city - in the
new Independent District, the
Docklands, the City Centre
and the Georgian Quarter.
The word independent is customarily assigned to those who go against
the grain. Those who are brave enough to challenge, to explore,
and resist the power structures that shape our social and psychological
existence. The Independent strand of the Liverpool Biennial has
been defined as being 'the closest to the people's hearts'. It is
the strand that provides the elements of the unexpected, the experimental,
the diverse and the subversive.
It is the strand that captures the vital energy and mood of the
city that Carl Jung dreamed was 'the pool of life, the very centre
of the life force itself'. Independents 04 endeavours to represent
that life force and the raw energy that is Liverpool. For the first
time we are proud to say that the independent section of the Liverpool
Biennial is self-determined, self-regulated and self-organised!
