Vong Phaophanit (UK/Laos)
- Phaophanit makes installations that explore the borderlines between
cultures, and their cross-overs. Famously he has worked with rice
and neon, often burying Laotian script, written in light, into the
archetypal export of the East, so that only an artificial glow can
be perceived. His recent work, Viscount 812, is a greenhouse, typical
of Middle England, that has had small holes drilled into all of
its surfaces, perforating the protective membrane that allows exotic
plants to be hot-housed in our Northern European climate.
